Scholastic's Summer Reading Challenge
Cyndee Regan
5/3/2012
Dear Collins Families,
Our school is participating in a fun summer reading project: the Scholastic Summer Challenge, featuring Read for the World Record! This year’s Summer Challenge unites students from around the globe to read in an attempt to set a new world record for summer reading! This year the mission is to have the 2012 Global Team, which includes Collins Elementary, read 75 million minutes!
The world record attempt begins May 1 and concludes August 31, 2012. This summer-long reading campaign is designed to motivate all children to read more so they maintain and improve their academic skills. The total logged reading minutes along with the top 20 schools will be published in the 2013 edition of the Scholastic Book of World Records!
To sign up, fill out the bottom of this form and give it to Ms. Regan, to get your unique username and password. Then go to http://www.scholastic.com/summer/ to get started! Once a child is registered, parents will need to log on and ok the registration. Please note; Scholastic will have no information on your child. The user id & passwords will be randomly generated.
Watch Scholastic's video here: http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/programs/summerreading/rftwr_video.asp
Don’t have a computer? No worries, you can sign your child up at school or the public library. If you misplace your child’s user id, Ms. Regan will have a list, and you can email her for the information at Cynthia.regan@uticak12.org.
I hope your family makes reading a big part of your summer fun this year!
Ms. Regan

Collins Hat Day5/04/20128:30 AM The purpose of Hat Day is to let the students have some fun and wear a hat, which is something they are not normally allowed to do! There will be 4 day's through the remainder of the school year when students are allowed to pay $1.00 for the day to wear a hat. Reminders will follow for Collins Hat Days moving forward. Hat Day is one of the events which the proceeds will go to support the newly formed Collins Playground Initiative. This Initiative will be raising funds to purchase two new playground structures for Collins. One of the areas will be designed especially for the needs of younger and special needs children. The other area will be designed with the needs of the older children in mind, both of which have been specially designed by a playground expert to meet the current struct state safety standards. The reason this Playground Initiative was started was because our current playground is not allowed to be used by our ECSE as well as Preschool/Nursery school students, due to strict state guildelines to avoid injuries sustained from falls, etc. We then decided to take it a step further, including a structure for the older children to play on, which will replay one of the older, outdated structures, giving our playground a much needed boost, creating a playground environment where all children can play and have a great time! A Collins Playground Initiative committee has been formed, we welcome anyone who would like to join, if you are interested, please contact us at brucecollinspto@gmail.com. More information will be coming home soon outlining the plans of this committee. So stay tuned for more details! Thank you, as always, for your support of Collins! View Full Event Info | 5 | ||
